Since its inception in 2004, the Kia Picanto 2023 has etched its name as a versatile city car, marketed under various aliases across Asia. The first-generation Picanto, initially a five-door hatchback, featured two petrol engine options and automatic transmission. It garnered attention for its entertainment features and underwent two facelifts in 2007 and 2010, primarily focusing on exterior and interior enhancements, including the iconic ‘tiger-nose grille.’
In 2011, the second-generation Picanto took the stage with an expanded wheelbase and a fresh design. Kia Lucky Motors assembles the second-generation Picanto in Pakistan, powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine. Its Pakistani debut in 2019 saw two variants: Manual and Automatic.
Kia Picanto Exterior
The Kia Picanto 2nd Generation boasts a compact design, highlighted by Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille adorned with black mesh and chrome trim. The front fascia features multi-focus reflector headlamps with daytime running lights, while the rear sports rear combination lamps and a rear wiper. A purposeful spoiler graces the rear, accompanied by a defogger on the rear screen. The car also includes electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors.
Kia Picanto Interior
Both variants of the Kia Picanto 2nd Generation offer comfortable seating for up to five passengers. The motor-driven power steering, equipped with electronic power assistance, is two-spoked and tilt-adjustable. The steering column also features tripmeter steering controls. The instrument cluster displays essential information, including a tachometer, trip computer, and manual transmission shift indicator. Rear seats come with headrests, seatbelts for all three passengers, and ISOFIX anchorage points. The Picanto comes standard with MP3 integration, radio, AUX, USB, digital clock, Bluetooth audio, and call functions. Four speakers ensure a satisfactory audio experience. An optional 9-inch LCD player is available. Additional standard features encompass cupholders, assist grips, a 12-volt interior accessory socket, ashtray, and a sunglasses holder. Overhead console, gear clutch foot, glovebox, luggage area, and front passenger foot area all feature lamps. A luggage box beneath the front passenger’s seat adds storage versatility. The rear seats can be split 60/40 to create additional cargo space. Keyless entry with folding-type keyless entry is supported, along with an immobilizer for enhanced security. Central door locking, a burglar alarm, and a security system contribute to peace of mind. Front seats are equipped with airbags, and the car features a manual air conditioning heating system. Anti-lock braking system (ABS) enhances driving safety.
Kia Picanto Engine
In Pakistan, the Picanto 2nd Generation is powered by a Euro 2 compliant 998cc MPI inline 3-cylinder gasoline engine, generating a maximum power output of 69 hp at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 9.6 Nm at 3,500 rpm.
Kia Picanto Mileage
The Kia Picanto 2nd Generation achieves a mileage of 12-15 km/l, slightly lower compared to its counterparts in the same engine displacement category.
Picanto Ride & Handling
The Kia Picanto 2023 is lauded for its easy handling and excellent visibility, offering drivers an unobstructed view of the road without blind spots. This attribute significantly contributes to ease of driving and maneuverability. While the car’s acceleration may feel somewhat modest, this is typical for its 998cc engine, which is compact. Regarding suspension, the Picanto shines with its impressive performance. It adeptly absorbs shocks and bumps, ensuring a comfortable ride, even on uneven city streets. This feature enhances the overall driving experience, providing a smooth and enjoyable journey.
Picanto Maintenance
Maintaining the Picanto is relatively straightforward, thanks to local assembly in Pakistan. However, it’s worth noting that auto parts can be costly.
Kia Picanto Specifications
Picanto Competitors
In the Pakistani market, the Kia Picanto 2023 competes with the Suzuki Cultus and Suzuki Wagon-R. Suzuki enjoys a dominant position in Pakistan’s hatchback market, backed by a strong reputation and a loyal customer base. Consequently, the Picanto faces fierce competition from Suzuki’s highly affordable and value-driven vehicle, the Cultus. The Cultus offers slightly more interior space and superior fuel efficiency compared to the Picanto. On the other hand, the Picanto excels in modern features such as airbags, IsoFix, and ABS, albeit at a higher price point.
The Wagon-R also competes with the Picanto in the affordable hatchback segment. Notably cheaper than the Picanto, the Wagon-R boasts more interior space. However, the Picanto distinguishes itself with a feature-rich package and heightened comfort.
